THE PERSISTENCE OF FORM                MPEG4 FULL 15:28 MIN $$$

Claude Viallat and Alain Clement are two artists who have lived and worked close to each other for many years in Nimes, France.  This video captures them in their studios and in the ancient city itself where, in fact, some of the inspiration for Clement's work is evident in the Roman architecture still here.  We find Viallat in his studio preparing and working with the reclaimed canvas (from circus tents) upon which -- with repeating stencils -- he explores the abstract potential of Provence.   2009 (RT 15:00)

ASHLEY BRYAN: Artist & Puppeteer  QUICKTIME EXCERPT 1:27 MIN $$$

Ashley Bryan lives and works on the island of Isleford, Maine. His studio is a fascinating collection of historical toys (merry-go-rounds, puppets, airplanes, pop-guns, wind-up racers), all on table tops, hanging from the ceiling or the stair case, or leaning against walls. It is a destination for island children.  Ashley, who taught for years at Dartmouth College, paints, prints, and writes children’s stories.  He performs with his hand-made puppets, constructed of bird bones, driftwood, and beach spindrift.  Often his work reflects the traditional stories and legends of his African heritage.      2006 (RT 9:00)
